Next to oxygen, water is the most vital element to continued life on planet earth.
Without
water,
people die in about seven days. As we go about our daily routines, we seldom
think about the importance that water plays in our existence.
Making up almost three-fourths of the body, every cell is regulated, monitored
and dependent on an efficient flow of water. Not one of the processes in our
bodies could take place without water.
Do we really understand how essential
water is or what happens to our body if it doesn't receive pure water every day?
Because clean water is so readily available, it is strange to think of not having
access to a tall glass of clear, cold, refreshing
water.
In the same way, how many of us really understand what happens to our mind and
spirit when we consume and act out evil? Do we really understand that
our mind and spirit need cleansing just as our bodies? What can cleanse the spirit?....The
Living Water of God's Word.
(Luke
4:4), (John
4:9-11)
Man is a spirit
First, we must understand that we aren't just bodies walking around breathing
and existing. In fact, what we see in the mirror is only a physical extension
of who we really are. The Bible reads in 2
Corinthians 5:8, that to be absent from the body is to be present with the
Lord. Therefore, we must first understand that our physical bodies are only temporary,
but our mind and spirits are eternal. (Zechariah
12:1)
We are creations of God
Genesis 2:7 reads: "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and
breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." God
created Adam and Eve, the mother and father of all humanity, and placed them
in
the
Garden of Eden between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, in what is present-day
Iraq. (Genesis 2)
They were made in God’s image, given his delegated authority, told to
be fruitful and multiply;
and
were
spiritually connected to God.
Unfortunately,
they allowed themselves to be deceived by Satan and disobeyed God's command
concerning
the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
At
that
point,
Adam
and
Eve
became
spiritually disconnected
from God. (Genesis
3).
A consequence of their disobedience to God was the entrance of sin and it's
companion, death.
Why is there trouble, sickness and death?
There is trouble, sickness and death in the world due to
Adam's sin. Because God made him responsible and because of his role as father
of humanity,
all men born would now be corrupt and subject
to evil. The pattern was set for all who would be born after--eternal separation
from God which is death.(Romans
6:23) Because God is perfect and pure, evil blocks
man's
access
to
communicate
with or even know that there is a God. In fact, our natural inclination from
birth is to sin. (Romans
3:23)
