But I'm a "good" person!
No matter how "good" we think we are or how many "good" things we do, we still have sinned. Because the wages of sin is death, even one sin causes death. We try to be: honest, truthful, kind, unselfish, compassionate, loving, generous, and try to follow the golden rule. This sounds good, but it does not take away sin, nor the wages of sin. In the end morals will not save you, “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags." (Isaiah 64:6)
But I'm religious!
You might go to church every Sunday, tithe or be an active church member. Many
try to follow the ten commandments or try to follow other "religious" laws in
order to get into heaven. However, no man has ever been perfect in this, nor
will any
ever. “For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point,
he is guilty of all.” (James 2:10) If you have broken even one commandment
(by even the smallest sin), but keep everything else in the law, then you are
still guilty of breaking all
of the law.
God's Plan to Restore Man
It was not God's will for man to sin or for anyone to die without being reconnected
with him. He created us to have fellowship with him and to live in peace and
safety.
God
loves
all
men
and
desires
all men
to
be
reconciled to him. (2
Peter 3:9) Despite what happened that day, God had a plan to restore mankind.
This plan
could only be carried out by one Person--Jesus Christ.
The Second Adam
Because the first man sinned and through him the rest of humanity was doomed
to be eternally separated from God, another man had to come and live a sin-less
life. Jesus was born into human flesh so that He could pay the price for all
of our sins. Jesus was not conceived by man, but by the Holy Spirit through the
virgin Mary. Therefore Jesus was without evil, and did not inherit the sin that
was handed down through Adam’s seed. (Luke
1:26-35, John 1:1, 14)
The Importance of Christ's Innocence
The devil (Satan) understood that the reward of sin is death. Therefore, he tempted
Christ to sin. (Luke
4:3-5) Jesus resisted him, never sinned and was crucified. (Matt.
27) Because he was put to death as an innocent man (Luke
23:39-43), the law of sin and death over mankind was broken and can no longer
have dominon over people who believe on Jesus. (Romans
10:9)
The Importance of Christ's Resurrection
When Jesus was raised from the dead three days after His crucifixtion, He proved
that He was God manifest in the flesh (Luke
24). His resurrection proved that He was sinless and had fully paid
the
price
of man’s sin on the cross. If Christ were not resurrected from the dead
then that means that He was not God manifest in the flesh and therefore was born
of Adam
and had inherited sin. This would mean that man’s sin was not paid for,
and that we would still be condemned. “And if Christ be not
raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.” (1 Corinthians 15:17)
It is vital that someone believes by faith that Jesus died for their
sins on the cross, and that He was raised from the dead three
days later. Here's how you can............
